Crimson Desert

Crimson Desert Mounts — Riding on Pywel

How horseback travel works on Pywel, when you dismount for dungeons, and how mounts compare with fast travel after anchors unlock.

What mounts are for

Crimson Desert uses a riding mount for overworld travel on the continent of Pywel. The campaign horse covers roads between Greymane camps, ether springs, and region gates faster than walking, and it is the practical way to cross the map before fast-travel anchors exist.

Mounts do not replace dungeon traversal. Spires, sanctums, chambers, and boss arenas start on foot at the door.

When riding unlocks

World traversal, including the horse, opens with the campaign after the early Greymane stretch—the same window that starts registering camps and ether springs on the map. You do not pick a mount species in character creation.

The launch 1.0.0 notes called out memory streaming during long rides. If a ride hitch returns after a patch, clear the route once on foot or fast travel, then check the latest patch notes before assuming the horse is broken.

Where you must dismount

Dismount at spire gates, sanctum antechambers, Dragon Stone Chamber, and named boss doors such as Darkbringer, Bared Fang, and Blix. The horse waits outside; it does not enter interiors or puzzle floors.

Chaos Forest fog and Duskwood thicket paths are narrow. Ride the stable purple trail in Chaos Forest, then dismount for the totems and for Blix's grove. Duskwood's lantern puzzle is on foot.

Weather, heat, and stamina

Ice Cradle's blizzard and the volcanic crust outside Dragon Stone Chamber punish long outdoor rides. Buy warmth potions at Ether Rest before the glacier, and use a heat salve on the lava approach. The horse does not skip those checks.

A ride from Ether Rest to the northern glacier edge takes several in-game minutes if you do not fast travel. Combat on the road still stops you; the mount is travel, not a fight tool.

Mounts and fast travel

Once Greymane camps, ether springs, finished spires, and sanctum braziers are registered, fast travel is the shorter path. Keep the horse for first visits, for roads with no anchor yet, and for the stretch between an anchor and a door that still requires walking.

Ancient Sealed Gate is a region checkpoint, not a distance you can ride around. The wastes, Altar of Solitude, and Path of Trials sit on the far side of that gate.

FAQ

Does Crimson Desert have mounts?

Yes. Overworld travel on Pywel uses a campaign horse. It is for roads between regions, not for spire, sanctum, or boss interiors.

Can you fight on horseback?

Road enemies still interrupt travel. Named bosses and dungeon fights start after you dismount at the entrance.

Do mounts replace fast travel?

No. Fast travel between discovered anchors is faster once camps, ether springs, spires, and sanctum braziers are unlocked. Use the horse before those anchors exist and for the walk from an anchor to a door.
