Character Creation in Crimson Desert
How Kliff's Greymane identity, appearance options, and opening loadout work at the start of Pearl Abyss's single-player campaign on Pywel.
Who you play
Crimson Desert centers on Kliff, a member of the Greymanes mercenary company, in a story conflict against the rival Black Bears on the continent of Pywel. Character creation adjusts Kliff's appearance and baseline combat preferences; you do not pick a separate class name from an MMO-style list.
The Greymane theme shows up in skill animations, camp dialogue, and oath-related story beats later in the Truth chain.
Appearance and voice
At launch on March 19, 2026, the creator offers face presets, body sliders within published limits, hair options, and voice selection where the platform build includes them.
Changes after the prologue may be limited to camp mirrors or specific NPCs—check the Greymane camp vanity station once Act I ends.
Starting weapons and style
You choose an initial weapon affinity among the melee and ranged families Pearl Abyss exposes in the tutorial. This sets early combo tutorials and starter gear, not a permanent lock.
Swap weapons freely once you loot or craft alternatives; the opening choice mainly shapes the first hour of training encounters south of Pywel.
Difficulty and assists
Difficulty options affect enemy damage, resource drops, and sometimes parry timing windows. Assist toggles such as aim help on controller builds are listed per platform on the options screen.
Pick a difficulty you can sustain for long boss fights like Darkbringer and Crimson Nightmare; you can adjust many settings later from the pause menu where the build allows.
